Lookout Brewing
📍Downtown • Brewery
A family-run brewery that started as a homebrew experiment in 2013 and grew into a proper community hangout. Two indoor rooms plus a covered front patio, small-batch beers leaning hoppy — lagers, IPAs, and the occasional saison — often brewed with local and seasonal ingredients.
🍺 What to Order: Whatever IPA is fresh, or the Mexican lager with lime if it's on. The hoppy styles are where they shine. During hop season they brew with wet hops from farms just down the mountain.
📋 Good to Know: Easy to post up and get work done in the afternoon. Mac's food truck on site. Well-behaved kids and dogs welcome. GMO-free, much of it sourced local.
💙 Why We Love It: The staff genuinely love talking beer. You can post up at the counter, ask questions, and taste your way through without ever feeling rushed. It's the kind of place where the people around the glass matter as much as what's in it.

Old Town District
📍Downtown • Indoor-Outdoor Tap Room
A laid-back taproom with 16 taps featuring local beer from Lookout and Black Mountain Brewing, plus wine and classic cocktails. The courtyard has a bocce court and an on-site food truck; the inside room runs cozy with couches and TVs.
🍺 What to Order: A local draft and a margarita, plus whatever the food trucks is running.
📋 Good to Know: No reservations, no wait, pet-friendly, and family-friendly with bocce and chalk for kids. Plenty of free parking on the street and nearby lots. Live music nights are a regular draw. Fully wheelchair accessible.
💙 Why We Love It: Bud and the crew treat regulars and first-timers the same. Walk in twice and they'll remember you. It's the neighborhood watering hole done right: local taps, easy vibe, everybody welcome.

Black Mountain Brewing

An independent craft micro-brewery in the historic district, brewing since 2018 — crisp lagers and sessionable ales, with rotating seasonals, gluten-free options, and non-alcoholic pours. The taproom doubles as the brewing facility, so you're drinking a few feet from where it's made.
🍺 What to Order: The Eagle lager for a clean, straightforward pint, or whatever seasonal is on. They brewed a Sourwood Honey Lager for the town's Sourwood Festival. Growlers available to go.
📋 Good to Know: Dog-friendly with live music on occasion. Parking is tight on summer weekends. The Visitor Center lot and nearby municipal lots are your best bet.
💙 Why We Love It: A cozy, genuinely community-minded taproom where the beertenders (ask for Rob) hand out recommendations for the whole town, not just the tap list. Don't miss the Roberta Flack mural on the side of the building; she was born in Black Mountain.

Pisgah Brewing
📍Just outside of town • Brewery & music venue
One of WNC's craft beer originals, brewing since 2005 with all-organic grains and malts, and the tap list runs broad and deep with plenty of stouts and non-alcoholic options among them. Boasts a spacious warehouse taproom with an indoor stage, plus a large outdoor stage that's one of the region's premier live-music spots in summer and fall.
🍺 What to Order: The Pisgah Pale Ale, the flagship and a longtime local benchmark.
📋 Good to Know: Literally two miles west on the main drag out of town. Not a walk, but a very easy drive. Check their calendar before you go. A show night is a different experience than a quiet afternoon pint.
💙 Why We Love It: 20 years in, Pisgah still runs on warmth and community. It's why people drive out of their way for it. Magical musical nights are practically the house specialty.

Steps from our Westview Lodge, a hi-fi listening bar built around good records, proper cocktails, and the art of staying awhile. Inspired by Japan's listening bars, with global pours and a room designed for settling in rather than passing through.
🍸 What to Order: A well-made cocktail and a seat near the speakers. The sound system is the point here.
📋 Good to Know: Open Tue–Sat, 5pm to late (1am Fri–Sat). No kitchen yet, but they're happy for you to grab food beforehand and bring it in. Only pool tables in town! Live music, themed nights, and seasonal events.
💙 Why We Love It: They call it "Black Mountain's living room," and it earns the name. The vibe is curated without being pretentious, and the bartenders know what they're doing. A rare late-night spot that fills a real gap in town.

The Station

A dim, cozy spot for cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits with a warm, floral-and-rustic aesthetic. No kitchen, but you're welcome to bring food in. Grab tacos or a bite from across the street and settle in. Live music some nights, from full bands to traditional Irish sessions.
🍸 What to Order: The espresso martini! Locals will tell you it's the best in the state, and they mean it. Otherwise the bartenders make a mean margarita and pour a perfect pint.
📋 Good to Know: Bring your own food from nearby. Happy hour on wine and drinks. Live music on select nights. Weekend bartenders Katie and Shelby have something of a local following.
💙 Why We Love It: The rare Black Mountain spot people name when they say "the only place I go for cocktails." Impeccable drinks, a dim and welcoming room, and bartenders who make you feel like family by the second visit.

The Town Pump
📍Downtown • Dive Bar
Black Mountain's legendary dive! A no-frills tavern in the historic district, walls and ceiling packed with memorabilia and antique signs. Rotating local taps, cheap beer, darts, and a back patio. No kitchen, but they're happy for you to bring food in.
🍺 What to Order: A cold local draft. The taps rotate through Asheville-area breweries and the pours are cheap.
📋 Good to Know: Cash only. No cards. Open daily from 3pm, late even on weeknights. Live music is the draw: singer-songwriter nights midweek, full bands on weekends (get there early for a table). Not really a kids' spot.
💙 Why We Love It: This is the one locals mean when they say "my bar." Strangers become friends by last call, the bartenders remember you, and the music fills the place. It even has a film cameo or two. Scenes from Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri were shot here.
