IN GOOD COMPANY
Black Mountain has no shortage of trails and open sky. But there's another side to this town. One built around people, history, and community. These are the spaces made for coming together and just being.
Music & Community
White Horse Black Mountain
๐Downtown • Live music & event center
The beating cultural heart of Black Mountain. Live music most nights, benefit shows, and late sets where the room leans in. We volunteer here often, and the community fund born after Helene keeps us close.
โ๐ Why We Love It: This is one of those places that makes Black Mountain feel like home. We volunteer here ourselves. You might even catch Scott behind the bar! And we love the incredible mix of music, events, and people that come through the doors. It’s a true community gathering place in every sense.

Black Mountain Tailgate Market
๐Downtown • Outdoor market
Runs May through October on Saturday mornings. A slow, social Saturday ritual under open sky. Local farmers, makers, music, and growers with dirt still on the vegetables. Come early, fill a basket, linger over coffee, and meet the people who feed this valley.
๐ Why We Love It: The Tailgate Market puts you face-to-face with the people who grow, make, bake, and create here. We love the variety, the live music, and how easy it is to spend a whole morning wandering and talking with people. Bring a bag. You’re almost guaranteed to leave with something good.
Plan Your Visit:
Park Rhythms Concert Series
๐Downtown • Outdoor live music event
Warm summer evenings when the whole town spills into the park with blankets and lawn chairs. The music is free, the mood is easy, and there's no better way to feel like a local for a night and settle in.
โ
๐ Why We Love It: This is summer in Black Mountain at its best. Locals spread out on the lawn, music fills the park, and everyone settles into the long evening together. It’s simple, free, and one of our favorite ways to enjoy the height of mountain-town summer.

Art & Galleries
Black Mountain Center for the Arts
๐Downtown • Gallery & arts center
A restored 1920s city hall turned creative hub, with rotating gallery shows, hands-on classes, and a performance hall that hosts everything from folk concerts to community theater. Come to see, or come to make.
โ๐ Why We Love It: We love that this isn’t just somewhere to look at art. It’s a place where the community actually makes it. There’s always something different happening, from gallery exhibits and performances to classes where you can jump in and create something yourself.
Plan Your Visit:
Black Mountain College Museum
๐Downtown Asheville • Museum
~20 minutes from Black Mountain in Asheville. A museum honoring the short-lived, wildly influential college that reshaped American art, dance, and design. Rotating exhibits and archives trace a legacy that still ripples through the creative world today.
๐ Why We Love It: Black Mountain College had an outsized influence on modern art, and we love having a place nearby that tells that story. If you’re curious about why this little corner of Western North Carolina has such a strong creative spirit, this is a fascinating place to start.
Plan Your Visit:
Red House Gallery & Studios
๐Downtown • Gallery & studio
Home to the Swannanoa Valley Art League, this working gallery and studio space is where local painters, potters, and printmakers create and show their work. Stop in to browse, meet the makers, and take a piece home.
๐ Why We Love It: There’s something special about seeing local art in the same place it’s being made. The Red House gives you a closer look at the artists and creative community of the Swannanoa Valley, and it’s a wonderful place to find something truly local to bring home.
Plan Your Visit:
Seven Sisters Craft Gallery
๐Downtown • Artisan Gallery
A beloved downtown gallery packed with fine craft from Southern Appalachian artists, pottery, glass, jewelry, and textiles. Easy to lose an hour here, and hard to leave without a piece worth taking home.
๐ Why We Love It: This is one of our favorite places to browse downtown, especially when we’re looking for a gift that actually feels like it came from the mountains. The collection is beautiful, varied, and full of work from regional artists and makers. You’ll want to look at everything.

Black Mountain Public Library
๐Downtown • Dive Bar
โ
More than a place to borrow books, our library a warm, welcoming room with local history, quiet corners to read, and a calendar of talks and story hours. An easy, unhurried stop when you want somewhere soft to land.
๐ Why We Love It: Every good small town needs a great library, and ours feels like part of the fabric of downtown. We love it as a quiet place to slow down, browse the local shelves, or duck into when you need a peaceful hour between adventures.
Plan Your Visit:

The friendly front door to town! Drop in for maps, event calendars, and insider tips from people who know Black Mountain inside out. A smart first stop for planning your days and finding what's happening now. Expect friendly faces.
โ
๐ Why We Love It: Sometimes the best recommendations come from simply asking a local. The Chamber is full of people who know what’s happening around town, from seasonal events to businesses worth discovering. It’s an especially helpful stop if this is your first time in Black Mountain.
Plan Your Visit:
Swannanoa Valley History Museum
๐Downtown • Dive Bar
โThe valley's story told through artifacts, photographs, and rotating exhibits, plus a beloved hiking series that walks you through the history underfoot. Come to understand the place you're standing a little better.
๐ Why We Love It: The mountains are even more interesting when you know the stories behind them. We love how the museum connects the landscape you’re exploring with the people, communities, and history that shaped it, and their hikes take that storytelling right out onto the trail.
